If you’re a hardcore fan of Tata Motors and waiting to see their next big launch in India, the wait is going to over soon for you. This vehicle is the Tata Hexa – a threat to the likes of Toyota Innova & Mahindra XUV500, a really big deal for Tata itself since its success will become the bedrock of Tata’s ambitious plan to enter the territory of Endeavour & Fortuner, and something that would make mockers stand up and be counted! Bookings for this new model starting in India from November 1 and deliveries will begin sometime in January, 2017. Let’s know what the new Tata Hexa MUV is all about!
Engine & Performance:
In terms of mechanicals, the Hexa is based upon its replacement Aria. However, the car has seen extensive changes on the chassis and suspension front that makes it stand way ahead of the Hexa. It’s a ladder-frame supported vehicle featuring engine in rear-wheel drive layout. Powering the model is 2.2-liter VariCor400 unit that produces 156 PS of power and 400 Nm of torque. Both automatic and manual transmissions will be on the list in 6-speed configuration. The Tata Hexa MUV does also offer the choice of all-wheel drive layout.
This is also the first Tata as well as first-in-segment to offer rotary multi-drive mode selector. The feature offers 4 drive modes – Comfort, Dynamic, Auto and Rough – and like LandRover’s terrain management system alters the response of engine, ABS, ESP and AWD. Interestingly, the Automatic-transmissioned variants offer a 5th Sport mode that ensures to satisfy the fancy of performance enthusiasts by keeping the engine revv between 3000-4000 rpm band.
Comfort & Safety Features:
In terms of features, the Hexa offers a whole sufficient. This will be the most dynamic car in its segment. Starting with the 8-way adjustable driver’s seat, the Hexa offers premium equipment like dual-zone AC with separate vents for 2nd and 3rd rows, 10-speaker Harman audio system with 320-watt sub-woofer, ambiente mood lighting, 3.5-inch TFT color display for information read-outs related to drive modes, efficiency and trip-computer data, and 19-inch wheels with 235 section low-profile tyres that helps it to be characterized as a badass brute more than a utilitarian vehicle. On the safety front, the Tata Hexa MUV offers 6 airbags, disc brake at all four corners, ABS with EBD and electronic stability program. The Hexa offers both 6-seat (captain seats in the middle row) and 7-seat configurations.
Price & Launch Details:
The Hexa will sit as Tata’s flagship in India. The company is thriving to position it as a premium offering for a personal family, not as a comfortable equipment-loaded people carrier. To make it shine well against the market leaders like Toyota Innova Crysta and Mahindra XUV500, Tata will allegedly launch it at a competitive introductory price. The company will begin taking bookings from November 1 and launch is scheduled in January, 2017.
We hope the Tata Hexa MUV will surely add some life to the brand’s dying presence in the utility market. It becomes more important when Tata Motors is accredited as India’s first MUV & SUV maker – Sierra in 1991 and Safari in 1998.
